Heat-pump marketing in Manitoba

Manitoba pairs one of southern Canada's longest heating seasons with the most active heat-pump incentives on the Prairies. Efficiency Manitoba's rebate gives installers a clear, current hook.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Manitoba gives heat-pump installers something rare on the Prairies: a clear, current utility rebate to build campaigns around. It also gives them one of the longest heating seasons in southern Canada, which means every rebate message needs a cold-climate answer standing right behind it.

The Manitoba buyer

Manitoba's heating mix is more balanced than Alberta's or Saskatchewan's, which widens the heat-pump audience.

According to Statistics Canada, 52% of Manitoba households heated mainly with natural gas in 2023 and 33% with electricity. That gives you two large groups:

  • Electrically heated homes with electric furnaces, baseboards or electric boilers, where a heat pump is an efficiency upgrade and where no-cost programs may apply to qualifying households.
  • Gas-heated homes, where the pitch is cooling, comfort and a ducted cold-climate unit that qualifies for the larger rebate.

Winnipeg is the dominant market. Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson are regional hubs where reputation matters as much as search ranking.

Climate and seasonality

Manitoba winters are long and very cold. That cuts both ways for marketing: the need for heat is constant, but so is the doubt about whether a heat pump can carry the load.

A practical calendar:

  • Spring and summer: cooling-led campaigns, with the rebate as the closing argument.
  • August to October: the main heat-pump sales window, before homeowners stop wanting construction in the house.
  • Winter: education and follow-up. Publish your cold-climate content before November, not after the first complaint.

Incentives, as of October 2026

Manitoba has the most to say on the Prairies:

  • Efficiency Manitoba Air Source Heat Pump Rebate: $2,000 for a centrally ducted cold-climate unit, $1,500 for ductless, in existing primary residences. Registered suppliers get a $100 bonus on applications with an F280 heat-load calculation before 2027-03-31.
  • Affordable Home Energy Program: a no-cost air-source or ground-source heat pump, fitted by a registered program contractor, for eligible homes that currently rely on electric resistance heat. We couldn't re-confirm eligibility details, so point homeowners to the program page.
  • Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program: Manitoba was the first province with an agreement, announced 2025-09-12, funding no-cost retrofits for low- to median-income homeowners and tenants through Efficiency Manitoba.
  • Federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability: closed to Manitoba applicants on 2026-07-31.

A Winnipeg example: rebate plus F280

Here's how the Manitoba pieces fit together in one campaign, using figures you'd replace with your own.

A Winnipeg installer runs fall search ads for "cold climate heat pump Winnipeg rebate". The landing page leads with the $2,000 ducted and $1,500 ductless amounts, dated and linked, then explains that every quote includes an F280 heat-load calculation. If the installer quotes 30 ducted systems in a season and the calculation detail lifts the close rate by even a few points, that's another job or two signed, plus the supplier bonus on each qualifying application while it lasts.

Regulators installers deal with

The Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner issues gas and oil tradesperson licences, gas permits and electrician licences. Apprenticeship runs through Apprenticeship Manitoba, and workers' compensation through WCB Manitoba. We link to these; we don't advise on compliance.

How we'd approach Manitoba

  1. Build a Manitoba rebate page that explains the ducted and ductless amounts, who qualifies, and how your team handles registration, dated and linked. See rebate marketing.
  2. Use the F280 calculation in your marketing. "We do a heat-load calculation on every quote" is a concrete, checkable promise that sets you apart from installers who size by rule of thumb.
  3. Create separate pages for electrically heated homes, including the no-cost program path for those who may qualify.
  4. Answer the winter question everywhere, with Manitoba job stories and model documentation.
  5. Follow up on every quote before the cold sets in, when motivated buyers want work done. See quote follow-up.

Frequently asked questions

What heat pump rebate can Manitoba homeowners get?

When we checked in October 2026, the figures were $2,000 for a ducted cold-climate air-source system and $1,500 for ductless, in an existing home the owner lives in. Ask customers to confirm with Efficiency Manitoba before counting on it.

What is the F280 bonus?

Efficiency Manitoba lists a $100 bonus for registered suppliers on applications that include an F280 heat-load calculation, before 2027-03-31. It's an installer-side incentive, and also a useful trust signal: you can explain to homeowners that you size the system properly.

Is the oil-to-heat-pump grant still open in Manitoba?

No. The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability program closed to Manitoba applicants on 2026-07-31.
